One of the most exciting developments from the R-ITI project is
the opening of three state of the art radiology academies.
The academies are completely new facilities with separate infrastructures
for training consultant radiologists and will be at the heart of
delivering the Integrated Training Initiative approach.
Leeds and West Yorkshire Radiology Academy
Located next to the main Radiology Department at the Leeds General
Infirmary, the Leeds and West Yorkshire Radiology Academy is at the
centre of one of the two main acute hospital sites in Leeds.
Utilising specifically designed and fully air-conditioned surroundings,
the academy provides a stimulating and secure learning environment.
It combines modern multimedia facilities, a skills lab, library resources
and areas for peer-group work, with e-learning support.
The academy is linked to the Hospital PACS system, offering full
facilities for accessing e-learning and validated teaching cases.

Norfolk & Norwich Radiology Academy
The Norfolk & Norwich Radiology Academy is based in the Cotman
Centre at Norwich Research Park which is less than 10 minutes walk
from the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) and the
University of East Anglia (UEA).
The Academy has two seminar rooms seating between 24 and 32 people
and is equipped with double-headed data projectors and audio-visual
links to the hospital.
The Norfolk & Norwich Radiology Academy integrates PACS and
web-based technologies with traditional apprentice-style training
to produce radiologists for the digital age.
“We have a long history of working with digital imaging
and we are confident that our e-learning programme, together with
a varied timetable, will create a stimulating and innovative learning
environment. We are proud of our excellent academic record, our
first-class teaching facilities and our reputation as one of the
leading providers of SpR schemes.” Glynis Wivell, Academy
head

The Peninsula Radiology Academy uses intranet, internet and video
conferencing facilities; making it a focal point for clinical education
resources amongst radiologists across Devon and Cornwall.
State-of-the-art audio visual equipment allows live links to the
Peninsula Medical School lecture theatre in Plymouth, the other radiology
academies in Leeds and Norwich, other hospitals within the Peninsula,
and (with patient consent) to clinical procedures being undertaken
at nearby Derriford Hospital.
”The educational and audio visual facilities planned for
the Peninsula Radiology Academy are at the cutting edge of technology
and will benefit a wide range of healthcare professionals as well
as the medical trainees in radiology” Paul Roberts,
Chief Executive of Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust.
